Q: The new iPad has unstable 3G connection

3G icon is visible and signal is strong but safari tells no connection (other programs don't have connection as well). Switching to airplane mode and back doesnt help and reset (off and on) always helps, but problem appears again after some period. I can't tell exactly how much time should I wait but I noted that it appears after long idle period.

    Bit of an update.

I have been getting some good support from Apple. They have recognised the issue and it has been escalated to the technical department in the USA. My contact got me to obtain a load of diagnostic information and send it to them. They tried several troubleshooting remedies, but none of them worked for me.

They inform me they are continuing to work to resolve the problem and have told me to keep a note of my expenses, such as paying for a mobile contract I am unable to use, and they will refund me once the issue is finally solved.

Same problem here in the Singapore. Tried both activating/deactivating flight mode and mobile data several times, but only a reset or restart will solve the problem momentarily before it returns again. Is it the New iPad 64GB WIFI + 4G problem or the network services provided problem?

I rang Apple about this after having spoken to my carrier in Australia(Optus) who told me it was a known iPad issue. First Apple guy knew nothing about it and just told me to reset network settings and if that didn't work rest everything and restore from a backup. Tried all that called back and the next guy said to bring it in to swap it for a new one. I told him all the forums suggested a new iPad didn't resolve the issue but he just said if it was a software problem then all users would experience. As I didn't want to argue given they were offering a replacement I just left it at that but having gone in to swap,it yet partly because I don't think it will work and partly because it is a real hassle to do ( I don't get an immediate replacement - have to wait a couple of days).  I am tempted just to wait as I mainly have access to wifi and am heartened by the reports some users offer that Apple has acknowledged the problem and is working on a fix but why would a software issue affect only some users?

It lookes like a problem of specific network configuration that cause this bug. Today i tried changing my sim from my career (Movistar) to Digitel in Venezuela and the problem was solved. I don't know what Movistar configuration cause this bug in iOS. I hope apple solve it soon

I'm from Malaysia. iPad bought from Singapore early this month and using Maxis 3G (the local telco). Having 3G connectivity also. Serial number also starts with DLXH********. I guess this particular batch is faulty?

I'm also having the same problem in the UK with O2. It is absolutely frustrating. Rebooting will only solve the problem. Apple should really fix this. Its been a month since the iPad came out and still nothing.

It happens when the iPad switches between 2g and 3g. The only thing you can do that helps a bit, is to switch off cellular data when you're on the move. If you do that you are less likley to pick up 2g and cause the lockup, but that's no guarantee, especially if your new loation only has 2g!

The only actual solution is to change to a service provider who only have 3g cells. That way you never get the problem because there are no 2g cells to switch to. here in the UK, the only provider who fits the bill is Three. I've been using one of thier sims and have not had a single issue, whereas both T-Mobile and O2 lockup when it switches to Edge or 2g
