That may be true where you are at, but here in Sweden we have better networks (wireless and itherwise) than we know what to do with (not having netflix and all) and we are having this problem. This issue is most likely a software issue and not a hardware one since the reboot solves the network switching issue. If indeed this is a hardware issue which I highly doubt, I'm sure that they could put together a software workaround in that case.
As for the comments regarding "time in the spotlight", I don't think any of us are really looking for this. Most people are just frustrated with the issue and truely want it solved and are not trolling. Besides that, this thread may be getting a bit bigger, but it is in no way massive in world wide standards.

Apr 7, 2012 1:09 AM in response to Anton_UKby Torqen,Hi Anton, I've also tried this and everything is working great so far. I will keep testing this for a few hours to see if it holds up:) I would recommend others to try the same.

Apr 7, 2012 1:14 AM in response to v0vetsby Tiaan Korf, you can try to put your ipad in a cover of something because how you hold it may cause signal issues.

Apr 7, 2012 1:25 AM in response to Torqenby v0vets,There is another possible halfway imperfect solution I found.
Just switch off WiFi BEFORE loosing it. I mean it looks like the problem appears when iPad loses WiFi coonection - and by some reason doesn't restore 3G connection (despite of it shows 3G icon and 3G network is available). So you should switch off WiFi manually just before you leave its coverage. It's not the complete solution but better then nothing.

Apr 7, 2012 3:01 AM in response to v0vetsby Torqen,I have discovered that this problem also occur when turning wi-fi. Therefore turning it off will not fix the problem, only provoke it sooner.

Apr 7, 2012 3:16 AM in response to v0vetsby greenfan,I've got the same problem in Athens, Greece, with my new ipad 32GB +3G, in Vodafone. Most of the time 3G doesn't work, especially after having used a WiFi connection. I have to wait a long and I get a message that there is no network connection. Only solution that works, is to turn off and on again the ipad and then it starts working...

Apr 7, 2012 3:18 AM in response to v0vetsby JackFarmer2011,This has been identified as an issue with the New iPad, and will hopefully be fixed soon with a software update. Until then, you might have to make do with WiFi, sorry!

Apr 7, 2012 3:19 AM in response to v0vetsby Krylov Viktor,Hello! I have same troubles. First, Ipad3 32gb+gsm had some sudden loosing 3g connection. Now it doesn't see 3g at all, when iphone4 works fine. Reboots, airplain mode and resetting net settings doesn't help. 5 reboots and only edge connection - not 3g. switching on/off wifi doesn't help.
Disconnecting smartcover doesn't help.
Looking for solution...

Apr 7, 2012 3:25 AM in response to JackFarmer2011by Anton_UK,Further update.
It's now 12 hours since I added a sim PIN and I've been able to do some testing this morning.
I'venow transferred between wifi and 3G perhaps 50-60 times, some by switching wifi off and some by just roaming out of wifi coverage. All have behaved exactly as I'd have expected and 3G has been reliable and seamless.
In my local costa now having automatically romed on to their wifi and having roamed on and off as I went past on my way to the bank.
I'm starting to get the feeling I am fixed - inelegant but none the less fixed.
Anton.

Apr 7, 2012 3:58 AM in response to Anton_UKby Angry_Lyrad,Sim pin trick did not work for me, at first I thought it was an I flicked wifi on and of a few times and I was abe to use 3G/GPRS with no issues but after a 30 mile trip it resorted back to showing good signal and a 3G connection but would not pass any data.
Seems to be when it switches between carriers/towers it gets confused and just switches data off, sometimes it shows orange in the status bar but in settings next to carrier it thinks it's connected to t-mobile and other times it shows t-mobile or orange in the status but shows nothing next to carrier in settings
Lets hope 5.2 doesn't take long as I will ware out my sleep/power button :)

Apr 7, 2012 4:12 AM in response to etresoftby Torqen,Etresoft: I was not asking you know, I was actually replying to someone else in this forum. Also I am a bit curious as to how you can answer so definite on matters that does not involve you when you. Apple has and still are watching these forums and deleting post they do not like.
Enjoy my time in the spotlight?? Are you high on something or are you just not getting it? The point is not to get famous or shine in the media for gods sake, it is to direct attention towards the problem and hopefully get some answers from Apple as to why and what.
Etresoft:
"It's a hardware problem. The carriers are slammed by the impact of all these new devices. They just can't handle it. It will get better as they build up infrastructure."
My respond:
Really, and you know this how? Gut feeling? I was not talking about a carrier hardware problem, I was talking about the Ipads hardware and why are the carriers slammed by the impact of these devices? Do you live in a desert? You make it sound like the 3G technology was just invented along with the new IPad. The 3G infrastructure is a well established infrastructure (in Europe at least) that have been actively used for several years now and the carrier coverage where I live is great. The 3G coverage has nothing to do with this issue it's the device that refuse to switch bands and while it highly likely that it is a software problem, there is always a slim chance it could be caused due to the iPads internal chip, which leads me back to the reason why myself and several hundred other user wold like a statement from Apple advising either to wait for an update or to return it for a replacement.

Apr 7, 2012 4:17 AM in response to Krylov Viktorby Torqen,Hi
Have you checked the the "cellular data" setting is on?

Apr 7, 2012 4:22 AM in response to Torqenby v0vets,what's this? It's on for sure. As many persons've written it works after reboot but stops working after WiFi connection found and lost. Or, sometimes, probable, after long idle period (but who knows - maybe during this "idle" period iPad found and lost WiFi connection as well - for example, if you were moving to somewhere and found and lost some free known wifi network on the way.
