Mac Mail will not work ?

My Mac mail stopped working, I have tried repeatedly to delete and set-up the account with no success.

I receive the message either my name or password is incorrect, But they are correct and work on my iphone and in Icloud.

Can anyone help me troubleshoot this ? I would like to have my Mail for .mac work again. 😕

I think they're slowly nudging people to switch, .mac & MobileMe are going away about June/July, may as well set it up now.

I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.

You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.

iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...

IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:

•Server name: imap.mail.me.com

•SSL Required: Yes

•Port: 993

•Username: example@me.com (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)

•Password: Your iCloud password

SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:

•Server name: smtp.mail.me.com

•SSL Required: Yes

•Port: 587

•SMTP Authentication Required: Yes

•Username: example@me.com (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)

•Password: Your iCloud password

I already did all this. Make sure all the settings were setup manually, updated my password to the new requirements in iCloud, with the IMAP type account, checked with my ISP to make sure they weren't blocking any ports and still I can't receive any mail..

I can send, but I definitely don't receive and I get the prompt that says that the password has been rejected OVEr and OVER again.

I really don't know what else to do... and this happened to me since the 23rd, out of the blue, I didn't change any settings.

Could someone help me please??!!!!!😟😟😟😟😟😟

THanks

LOve mynew Macbook - I did and it didn't work, that's why I posted a reply.

BDaqua - yes, it's a new account that Im opening with the new settings and it won't connect. I erased the old Mobile account in the process of troubleshooting, thinking that by eliminating that account it wouldn't mess up with the new account connection, I know, sounds stupid, but hey I'm out of solutions now.

I'll attach some screens so you can see

THe ISP says they are not blocking any ports and I haven't change any configs on the router myself, specially none to do port forwarding, so I don't think it's there...

Oh and the connection doctor has the incoming connection failed... the SMTP is just fine..

And I just changed the password, so I made sure I made it a very clear one, and is perfectly working in the mobile devices and icloud.com

I really appreciate that you are taking a look at this, BDAqua 🙂 I'm just running out patience with it because I can't figure what suddenly changed

Mar 27, 2012 8:45 PM in response to JuMeneses

Well, we know why you're not getting Mail, it's not loggong in, the Password fail can be decieving & not mean the PW failed at all, for instance if the server required JuMenses@ me.com & you put in JuMenses as username, then password would fail for JuMenses, & vice versa.

Not sure whatis going on, but mulling it.

Mar 27, 2012 9:45 PM in response to BDAqua

Got it. So I fixed the username back to just the name without the domain and the error changed.

Now the OCnnection Dr.is liting up green all of the servers as connected and successful, but when I click the triangle to bring all accounts online, it fails and tells me the Mail wasn't able to read the server: imap.mail.me.com

No wait, now it went back to "red-lighting" the incoming mail server again as Authentication failed... I'm serious this computer is tripping.. I really don't get what's happening..

Do you think this is worth paying support to take a look at? Being that it's not a hardware thing?

Look here's the connection doctor output:
