Sure I can do that and give my new email to a very few people but it's not guarantee to fix the problem. The bigger issue here is I receive bill notification, I have order pending, banking, taxes, facebook and about 7 years of using this email.

I cannot really change it just like that or temporary, it would take me weeks to retrace my email history, plus I need my email to work in order to retrace my history. Anyway this problem continues for another day I call them unfortunately most of my mac product are under warranties or without apple care. So good luck with getting help.

This morning I managed to log in the iCloud successfully over the web using Safari, so maybe a sign relief, computer still down.

Thanks.

I got tech from Apple Tech support last night named Peter, who actually could not help me unless I pay $49 for trouble shooting my mail. WOW I was shocked and disgusted that I have to pay for a problem this is not mine plus a problem that 100 (possibly 1000) of people are currently experiencing. I am extremely disappointed with apple in recent years and this is not fair for a lot of us. I am stuck without email on my computer, so I am asking the community what would be the best (economical) way to solve my (our) problem.

Thank you in advance

After almost 5 days without email on my iMac computer and iPhone 4S, the problem seems to be gone by itself.

Corry a MobileMe Senior Advisor did replied to me that he will be taking on this case. That night my problem

was gone without any help from Apple ? coincidence or just luck ?

Unfortunately I cannot explain how it was solved, so I can't really share anything helpful to the community but

I am sure Apple knows the problem and discretely fixing it.

I will monitor mail activity on both devices and counter check using iCloud running Safari web browser.

If anything looks suspicious or I have any kind of discrepancies I will get back to the community.

In the mean time I did ask Corry to acknowledge all of the other users with the same problem as me on the Apple Community.

Thank you

Hi folks. I am having the exact same problem - and have been, for the past several days. Surely Apple knows that this is a BIG problem internally - I'm surprised with how it's taking them to fix it. In the meantime, I was successful with changing my Apple ID password online and then using iCloud online to access my Mac email. Still no luck, however, with my desktop iMac.

I have the same problem with the following history:

Last night Apple email went down entirely. Early this morning, I was able to access mail with Safari over the web. Later this morning, my iPad was able to log in to iCloud mail, and a bit later still, I was able to log in from a Mac running Lion. My Mac running Snow Leopard still can't log into the mail account.

When Mail asks you for a password, it doesn't neccesarily mean your password is wrong, it just means the connection failed. There is only the one errror message, so the password box is just Apple-ese for "DOH!... It didn't work..."

There have been no problems on any of my devices with gmail or Yahoo! mail, so it's an Apple server issue. If you look at iCloud service history, it says some customers may have been unable to access email, but as of 10AM PST, everything's just fine. It seems not to be so, since there are a lot of other mac.com and me.com mail accounts out of service.

You have been using MobileMe's email settings, which sometimes continue to work for a time after migration but then get turned off. iCloud's mail server settings are different. Strictly speaking Lion 10.7.2 is required for iCloud, and on that Mail is set up automatically.

Snow Leopard cannot access most of iCloud's facilities, however you can set Mail up manually to access your email. The method is described here:

Hi Roger.

I did reset my Snow Leopard Macs manually, and I periodically have had to delete the me.com account and re-enter it. I converted to iCloud a long time ago, and have been struggling with it since beta test. Your webpage is a great summary of what works and what doesn't re: iCloud and older Mac OSes.

Fortunately, I have email accounts on other servers so when iCloud goes down I just email my primary list to mail me at one of the other addresses. iCloud has been crashing less and less often, so one day it may be as reliable as Mobile Me, or even Yahoo! or gmail.

So, I finally got my email to work.

I had to upgrade my Mac to Lion. It's a $29.99 upgrade from the App store. If you've already done this. . . I don't know how to get it to work. My Mac Mail was offline on my MacBook since the 22nd of March, I just finished my upgrade, took all email accounts online and entered my password. . . it worked and all my new mail is on my computer now. Yay!

Real bummer that you have to upgrade to Lion in order to get your email. . . but at least it's not an expensive upgrade.

many many more than 1000 people are affected by this issue.

The suggestion of an invalid password under new icloud rules does not hold up as other machines/iphon continue to work.

Seems it is a password controller p1-imap.mail.me.com works as mentioned here...but one of the others does not.

not in our control or influence.

three days without mail on the imac..switched to the MBP and iphone, but it is a pain!

one uses mac.com another me.com two in LION icloud one on mobileme Snow Leopard

Hi Roger,

Thank you for your page explaining the migration to iCloud with Snow Leopard. It was a huge help. Unfortunately, I followed the directions clearly and the server continues to reject my password. I did as you suggested and logged onto my account online to upgrade my password to include numbers and capital letters, but it still does not work. It seems many people are having this problem. Is there any way to fix it that you are aware of aside from upgrading to Lion? Thank you.

Apr 26, 2012 7:01 AM in response to subliminaldow

This will fix your problem, do it all and no deviations.

If your password does not meet these requirements change it so that it does:

Minimum of 8 characters, including at least 1 uppercase letter, 1 lowercase letter and 1 number, no special characters.

Verify that you are using the correct server credentials:

IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:

  • Server name: imap.mail.me.com
  • SSL Required: Yes
  • Port: 993
  • Username: example@me.com (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
  • Password: Your iCloud password

SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:

  • Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
  • SSL Required: Yes
  • Port: 587
  • SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
  • Username: example@me.com (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
  • Password: Your iCloud password

Note: If you receive errors using SSL, try using TLS instead.

Additional Information

SSL is required for both IMAP and SMTP connection with iCloud. POP is not supported by iCloud.
