my home sharing is not working
my home sharing is not working
my home sharing is not working
I was experiencing the same issue after purchasing the new 3rd gen Apple TV.
I had tried 2 different routers and got same result. đ
I took the Apple TV to my girl friends and was successful using Home Sharing. đ
Both of us were using Windows 7 and at the time iTunes 10.6.0xxx.
However the newly released 10.6.1 version of iTunes seemed to have fixed my Home Sharing issues.
I'd be curious if you've upgraded to 10.6.1 and are still having the problem? đ
I have a 3rd gen and I have problems still with iTunes 10.6.1.7
Tried everything except reinstalling the whole computer
I am in the same boat as you. I am on the latest Itunes version and my home sharing worked for a few minutes then died, when trying to stream to Gen3 AppleTv. I am unable to get home sharing working again on this particular PC, but my other machines are all working properly with regards to home sharing. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes several times, but am still experiencing the same issue on this one particular PC.
this is not related to router.. there are many threads about this now in the forums.. look under AppleTV, and you will find similar problem description.
Last version of Itunes that came 2 days ago also updates Bonjour, and this is most probably a multicast disruption problem. I have 1 machine which is not working properly with apple tv, same network, and my laptop is working just fine. same apple tv.. apple tv didnt even restart between the two attempts with different machines.
Apple needs to fix this with either itunes or bonjour.
Hi, I have the same issue as you guys, using the latest version of Itune and the 3rd generation apple tv. Home sharing works for a few minutes and disconnect thereafter. I Have a collegue at work experiencing the same problem...
Please apple fix this
If they don't fix it soon, the appletv goes back to the store.
I have tons of other ways to stream media.
I'm having the same probelme- the computers recognize each other, but one won't display info. It happened right after update.
Well, I have done some testings with the itunes XML files.
There are following files in the 2 different locations:
C:\Users\Username\Music\iTunes - iTunes Music Library.xml
C:\Users\Svein\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\ - .iTunes Preferences.plist
Removing (safe copy) the music library file, didnt do anything better.. same result after I imported one movie.. dropped connection..
BUT, when I removed the iTunes Preferences.plist.. chadang.. working like a charm..
That means, allowing itunes to recreate the .iTunes Preferences.plist file, for some reason makes home sharing stable.
This explaines why home sharing from my laptop was working just fine.
Can anyone else confirm this ?
I hope we broke the problem..
Best from Norway
Tried deleting the .xml prefs and no luck on getting home sharing working for more than a few minutes on this laptop.
I also opened the ports through the firewall and no luck.
If I wasn't addicted to several of the video podcasts I would have already returned AppleTV. I guess I can just watch them on the Ipad or Iphone.
Thanks for your help guys!

go to your network adapter, either wifi on computer which hosts Itunes, and disable IPV6.
This solved it for me, and been working for hours now this morning, streaming out the favourite shows to my kids.
I read this in another thread and tried it, and now its been working for as long as I even has had since I got my new ATV3.
I shut off IPV6 also and mine is now working
Same issue exactly. Disabling IPV6 did not help for me - nor any other suggestion yet. Best thing to di is contact Apple so that they become aware of this regression. Below is what I have been posting:
Home sharing with the new Apple TV / iTunes update is just broke. Only works for a bit unless you restart iTunes or disable / re-enable Home Sharing. Use to work great until the last updates. This is not a network (router, firewall, ...) issue - just a (bad) regression in Apples software. Hopefully they fix this soon, hard to believe its been broke this long already. The Remote app update also fails to connect to Apple TVs (but does connect to iTunes) for many people as well. Poor QA all around. :(
I have yet to see any suggestion that actually works other than reverting to previous versions of fwr / iTunes - which is a pain / joke to do.
There are a *ton* of posts about this:

After reading many of these posts I wondered why if the issue is related to a bug in the latest iTunes it isn't affecting absolutely everybody. My mini is left on 24/7 and when home sharing fails, the only way to get it working again is to turn home sharing off and then back on again (or equivalent, such as quitting and restarting iTunes).
One other thing occurred to me. Most folks don't leave their machines on 24/7. They probably quit and restart iTunes, shut down their macs or put them to sleep. Putting my mini to sleep and then immediately waking it resulted in a non working home sharing starting to immediately work again.
So, does home sharing have some form of lease time associated with it that could expire (not a user configurable value, but connected with the user's apple id and set by an apple server) and must then be reset by restarting the service?
Internet sites are rife with reports of Apple TVs (1,2 and 3) loosing wifi connection. Multiple tips to correct the problem have been posted and most (all?) fail after an interval of hours or days. My plea to posters: please wait a few days before posting your 'successful' tip.
Mine is not working either. I have tried restarting, disabling IPv6, rebooting, restarting iTunes and so on. I've checked versions and date time settings. Everything is up to date. The computer and Apple TV are on the same network both behind the same hardware firewall. The software firewall is disabled. I'd be grateful for any suggestions. My box is model MD199C/A - it is black. I'm using an HP Elitebook laptop with Win 7 pro installed. I also restarted the Bonjour service.
