Mar 28, 2012 3:19 AM in response to lennyhuttonby Klaus1,You need to be running Leopard OS 10.5.8 to sync with your iPad.
Look on Amazon or eBay but make sure that you buy a black retail install disk. The grey update disks are machine specific and will not work.

Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753).
If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:
MB427Z/A Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD
MB576Z/A Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD
MB021Z/A Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)
MB022Z/A Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (5-user family pack)

After you install the base 10.5, download & install the 10.5.8 combo update at http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
Caution - Leopard does not support classic mode. So, if you currently open OS 9 apps in classic mode, you won't be able to do this if you upgrade to Leopard.

Mar 28, 2012 6:22 AM in response to lennyhuttonby Limnos,If this is an early 2006 model then you have one of the first Intel Mac computers which can run Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6). Snow Leopard is much cheaper and easier to purchase (you can probably buy it from Apple online) than Leopard.
Use System Profiler to get more information about your computer and compare it with the requirements listed below.
Snow Leopard 10.6 Technical Requirements - http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575 - note by K Shaffer - http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12921514#12921514 : "Some early Intel-based Macs can't use Snow Leopard 10.6 installers; of those, the Core Duo (not 2 duo) were suspect and had issues." - and a qualifier by "a brody" http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=13028822 : "I think that refers to the ones without at least 1 GB of RAM."
