What's more why do we have the privilege of paying twice what our US friends do for content but no ability to purchase movies... No ability to purchase tv series (except in Standard definition) ??

This has to do with licensing and is in direct correlation with what resides in your iTunes store.
Clearly it does, when the prospective rights issues might be sorted out was the question I was hoping to have clarified.. Rights don't explain the lack of HD format availability in purchased tv series either, nor the disparity in cost from region to region. Tax doesn't either as far as costs go once looked into.
No one here can answer that as this is a user forum. Rights can pertain to resolution, and as far as cost that is going to vary according to region based on many factors
