updated to 6.2 and ios5 I have custom map kmz files that work in PC but when opening the icon in iPad.... the text box is empty. any help is appreciated

What app are you using to try and open the kmz files?
When I searched for kmz, I found this one -> KMZ Loader. If that app isn't working, you'll have better luck fixing the problem by checking their support site.
I have been using the KMZLOADER in google Earth until this week... worked fine. Google Earth has a new version (6.2) and in this version.... kmz and kml files open without the KMZLOADER app. I have removed the KMZLOADER app and emailed kmz files to myself. When opened in Google Earth on windows platform (7) it works and opens fine. BUT same attachment in same email ... when opened in iPad opens the map fine and icons fine but when you tap an icon the text box (balloon) does not have the address etc that are visable in the PC based Google Earth. Google Earth boasts of the ability to now open kmz files directly but there is a bug

It sounds like you are describing the same thing that this person is on Google Groups posted about -> New problem - Google Earth Pro maps uploaded into My Places no longer display in Google Earth on Ipad - Google Groups
I don't see a fix there, so you may have to wait for Google to update the app. You may want to leave feedback there too.
(EDIT: It looks like that post is old, but you'll probably have better luck fixing Google app problems there)

I have same problem, I can open a kml file from mail and at first it seams to work great. But then I realized that the detailed description info show up blank.
Then I tried it out on another iPad, and here it works fine.
I then uninstalled my google earth and installed it again, same problem.
Any idea anyone?
