Accidentally deleted all messages in an iCloud mail folder

I just accidentally deleted all the messages in an iCloud mail folder instead of the few I really wanted to delete. I can't find them - they're not in the Trash folder. Were they automatically trashed and deleted because they were older than 30 days?
