How does the iPad 2 rate as a sheet music display?

You might get a few valid replies here but wouldn't you have more luck asking this question on a forum dedicated to musicians? Good luck? 😉

I'm not a concert muscian. However, I've used my iPad for piano music. It worked fine for me. I believe the app I used is called Etude. However, I don't recall if you can import your own music into that program or not.

The other issue I can see is that the iPad is, compared to sheet music, rather heavy. It's fine on the music stand of a piano. It would probably be okay on one of the music stands I used to use when I played in an orchestra (they were black metal). I think, though, that it wouldn't be trustworthy on a folding music stand. If sheet music falls to the floor, you just pick it up. If an iPad falls down, it might break.

I seem to recall a vendor somewhere that offered a stand for the iPad that was more or less a music stand. Not sure who the vendor was (or if I'm just making it up 😝). Could be worth checking into, however.

Page turning in the iBook reader is pretty snappy, but I'm not a musician and would suggest you not take my word for it. Best scenario would be for you to get your hands on one and check it out.

Too be honest.. I dont like using an ipad to read sheet music. I go to a very rich high school and we use ipads but sometimes they get stuck or shut off, and it just doesnt feel right. I would just use regular paper or photo copies to play piano.

In my opinion, the app musicnotes is great. It has the ability for a conductor to change the pages for everyone in a whole band and orchestra. I used it for a concert for charity on my iPad 2, because I couldn't change pages while playing my saxophone. Try it!
