ioGear USB to Serial adapter driver. (GUC232A)

I had one working for a custom barcode app with my PB-12, a Keyspan I do believe. But it was a bit of a headache to get working.

Their OSX drivers are severely outdated--you may have better luck sourcing drivers from the chipset manufacturer, Prolific Technologies. http://www.prolific.com.tw/

It's been a while since I used this device on anything above Jaguar (10.2) so I cannot say that their newest set will work on Tiger or not.

Keyspan has released OS X drivers (technically beta, but they've been stable for) for the 19HS serial adapter. I've had no problems using it and my MBP to connect to (so far) Sun, Cisco, Foundry, Juniper and ASL machines.

My Macbook is in transit, but I use a USB-Serial every single day. Are the drivers universal? or does it even matter? I know we are talking about slow data rates, but do you notice any difference using it on MBP?

Difference, naw. my routers all talk at 19200 or 9600 🙂 I still use ZTERM, which is a Rosetta App.

The beta drivers are intel only I think. It does matter in that the device wont work at all without the intel drivers, but I hoghly doubt it has any impact on signalling rate 🙂.

Seconded. I've had no trouble with the beta drivers as of yet.

I am currently using ZTerm to connect. Anyone have a better solution?

Ok, Just got my MacBook Pro yesterday, and I love it. I have the GUC232A from IOGEAR, which worked on my old 17", but the driver install doesn't work on my intel, who'd have thought. Anyone using this? I loaded the prolific drivers.

I think I have a Keyspan kicking around that I can use instead, but I didn't see on Keyspan's site where to download intel drivers. Anyone have a link?

Also, I have a Belkin adapter, but it looks like on Belkin's site it only goes up to OS9.

We're issued the Keyspan adapter at work. I have to admit, it works well for my on my intel mac. It's a bit pricey, but I've used them for a while and they have great Mac support.

while searching for drivers that work, I found a link on a blog provided by a commenter regarding a driver that worked for him. I downloaded the driver and it has allowed me to use my IOGear GUC232A on my MacBook Pro. I installed it and my usb to serial dongle is working fine with ZTerm and connecting to Cisco Routers and other firewall devices.
