mail messages corrupted after removing attachments

Occasionally when I remove attachments from a sent mail message, the remainder of the message becomes corrupted and unreadable.

I am using OS X 10.7 Lion, latest Mac Mail program. The mail server is a MS exchange server. The attachments are usually pdf files.

The phenomenon is not reproducible at will.

I have had the same problem intermittently for months.

I am now using Mountain Lion and have the same issue.

I have tried leaving the Internal Server Path for MS Exchange blank to see if that helps. I will monitor and report back.

I have another MS Exchange account that does not cause the same problem but it seems to be a different type of Exchange account!
