The iCloud IMAP server “p02-imap.mail.me.com” rejected the password for user “bethbailey3” Enter your password again or cancel.

I continue to get this message on my desktop and my Iphone. The password has not changed nor is it incorrect. What do I need to do? My Iphone will get current mail but my desktop will not.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Same problem here - I was away for 1 week and had my iMac turned off and when I came back and tried to launch "Mail" on my iMac computer, it kept asking for a password and after I entered it, it kept rejecting it. I can no longer receive any email on the Mail program, but I can send email from the Mail program. I only use a @mac.com email address and it is setup as such. Note that I am/was a MobileMe customer. I have since changed my password for my appleid.icloud, since I read that the new password requires a letter, number, and caps. After trying this solution, it still is not working. Basically it keeps asking for my password and a box appears that states: "The MobileMe IMAP server "mail.mac.com" rejected the password for user "xxxxx". I know I am entering the correct password. My email works on my iPhone and iPad (using this password), but just not on the Mail program on my iMac. When I use the "Connection Doctor" in Mail, the results are as follows: 1. "Connection Status: Green - Mail was able to connect to the internet" 2. "xxxx Account Name: Red - is not able to login to my account" 3. "smtp.me.com:xxxx: Green - Connection and login to server succeeded" Given it is able to login to the server, it seems the problem is with my account and password. But the same account/password works on my iPhone/iPad. Any help would be appreciated - I use Mail as my primary application to read/write emails and now I cannot do so. Thanks.

Everyone - please do the following so this is raised as higher priority at Apple. The more people that submit, the higher likelihood we have that Apple fixes this.


In Mail, along the top toolbar, select "Mail"

in the dropdown, select "provide mail feedback"

a popup box will appear, click "continue"

it will take you to a webpage, where you will fill out information:

to make it easy for everyone, please inputthe following:


Subject: Mail keeps rejecting password


Comments: The Mail program keeps rejecting the password ansd stating it is incorrect. All the settings, including the server information is correct. The account and password are also correct. The issue with on Apple's side and the IMAP server keeps rejecting the password. Please correct this as soon as possible. Many people are having the same issue and errors. Thank you.

I was able to resolve this (sort of) by changing my password, after that I was able to retrieve mail on my iPad and iPhone, and even my iMac last night using the Mail app. Even though Mail kept asking for the password, it did at least retrieve the messages. iCloud.com still did not work though. I've just come home and found that Mail is not working again, desktop or iCloud.com. What a shame, iCloud has been rock solid for me for years now (well, if you count the time that it was MobileMe.)

Go to www.icloud.com, login and change your password, the parameters for the password are, minimum 8 characters including at least one number and one upper case letter, no special characters, put the new password in all devices.

However, I have change my password multiple times and that does not fix anything. I am able to use the same username/password and get my email on my iPhone, iPad, and through icloud.com. The issue is only with my iMac and the Mail program. It seems there is some issue with the iMacs/Mail program. And possibly the fact that we were MobileMe subscribers before.
