What's wrong with YouTube on Safari!!!

Hi guys,

This is just recently!! YouTube on Safari is literally BAD EXPERIENCE!!!

When I choose to play something, it either:

- Play the first 4 seconds and repeat with a black screen

- Play 10-15 seconds as a whole clip instead of the proper lenght of the clip

- It keeps freezing my browser if a video managed to load, it gets stuck A LOT, it plays only part of it and not all of it and it just doesn't work!!

What is going on! I tried all of this uninstall Flash and reinstall and/or whatever!!!

It works smoothly on Firefox, something is wrong with SAFARI!!!

What can I do? anybody with the same issue and found out a solution!!

I can!!

Sul.

Hi ...

Quit Safari.

Really helps to tell us which Mac OS X you have installed when you post.

If you are running v10.7 Lion, open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Storage tab. Click: Delete All

If you aren't running v10.7 Lion, start here:

If you are sure you UNINSTALLED the original Flash plugin first before reinstalling new, launch Safari From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache

Now try a video.

BTW... if you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.

And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to: Open in 32 bit mode is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.

I'm running Lion fully up to date and installed Safari update yesterday. I've had loads of spinning beachball especially with PDF and flash video, especially YouTube. I attempted the solution above but it's still very laggy. I'd have posted a secrean capture but the uploader to this site doesn't work either.

Very dissapointing, it's been quite some time since Apple released a buggy update.

I am having the exact same problem. OS 10.7.3, Safari 5.1.5. MacBook Pro recent model 2 GHz i7, 8GB 1333MHz DDR3. I have uninstalled/reinstalled Flash, eliminated ALL extensions and have done all of the steps above with no positive result. It is especially poor with youtube videos embedded in other websites. Everything works perfectly in Firefox. In addition, if I have an number of tabs open in Safari pages all go white and I get a box popping up that says all pages need to force reload. Very frustrating. Eventually after several minutes the video sometimes loads and plays and the other tabs display the proper webpages. I have repaired permissions, and ran OnyX to clear all caches, etc.......makes no difference.

I am having the exact same problems as both of you are-- word for word. The multiple tabs thing is really weird! Also, now passwords aren't working right... I have to enter my passwords multiple times before they work. In addition, certain websites are crashing safari, or coming up white. Safai overall is lagging bad too. Oh, I have a brand new iMac... tried all the usual tricks mention above-- no help. As far as youtube goes, I had to install this addon:

Once I did that, youtube is back to working like normal.

Me too, more or less. It started a few days ago, with a delay in videos starting, and then truncating to 10-15s. After reaching the 10-15s, some sort of looping occurs - the timer drops back a few seconds, then counts back up to the truncation time, then repeats, without the image changing. Meanwhile, downloading is continuing at my network max (~1Mb/s). I haven't had any browser freezes.

If I open the same video in Firefox it plays normally.

I've tried clearing Safari caches, Flash caches, removing plugins, updated Safari, re-installed Flash.

😀Hi Carolyn, long time no see! (I've been very quiet here)

That thickens the plot. I just noticed it a couple of days ago and then again tonight. I don't play YouTube that much so I'm not sure exactly when the problem started but only noticed after the last update. The problem may have been there before, however.

I did all you did plus I turned of Click to Flash and tried the fix from John Corey, but all to no avail. Looks like YouTube on the iPad for those times I desperately need it.

Cheers

Well due to a different problem that I was having with VirusBarrier, I seem to no longer have a problem with YouTube. I was running VirusBarrier X6 for a couple of years with no problems, but with OS 10.7 upgrades I started having problems. After an uninstall and reinstall of VirusBarrier, my entire system crashed. Took a full day to repair the problem and I have removed (permanently) VB X6 and instead am trying Norton. No problems. YouTube now loads without any other 3rd party extensions fine, and Safari is much, much more responsive. I run permission repairs and Disk Utility routinely as well as cleaning out the rubbish routinely so my hard drive is upkept. The only conclusion I can draw is that this antivirus software was causing the associated problems.
