cannot install flash version 10.1.0 onto a mac 10.4.11

Hello,

I cannot install flash version 10.1.0 onto a mac 10.4.11 and therefore cannot use YouTube or the BBCIplayer. Is there a compatability problem?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.4.11), cannot install flash version 10.1.0

I am in the same boat. I cannot watch flash videos on the BBC website or on BBC iPlayer, although all other flash videos (YouTube for example) are fine.

For reasons that passeth all understanding, they work with the PPC version of Firefox, called TenFourFoxG5.app, once you have anabled plug-ins, as it does not natively support Flash.

You can download TenFourFoxG5 from here:

http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/

Now for the intersting bit: TenFourFox, like Firefox, does not support most plug-ins. Unless you are prone to headaches (in which case don't) you can read about that here:

http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/wiki/PluginsNoLongerSupported

But there is a workaround!

Open TenFourFox and type in the address bar: about:config (no spaces) and click return. This gives you a warning that it might harm the application. Ignore that and click on 'I'll be careful, I promise' and you get the config file that you can edit - with great care.

Look/search (scroll down) for: tenfourfox.plugins.enabled

Set it to true. (Double click it to toggle it)

Now close TenFourFox, open it again, and Flash will now work, as it now uses the plug-ins that Safari has stored.

I am using Flash 10.1.102.64 in TenFourFox and it works just fine.

Windows xp machines released in 2001 are still chugging along no problem.

They can use the latest version of Flash Player too.

The issue here is Apple felt that it's in-house processors were better than intel and fought against the change for years. Untill finally they admitted intel is better and created a new line of pc's with it.

Kinda like the whole "get an hd-dvd player" while blocked from blu-ray because steve jobs said blueray was "nothing but a bag of hurt", only to find out a few years later he was yet wrong again, and now we have useless hd dvd players and need to update to the finally allowed blueray format.

Business insider reported on these types of issues as well as many others...

I think Apple ‑‑ you're right, you can download iOS 5 for iPhone 3G, and it won't be usable, but it's possible to install .... It's a great hardware sales tool as far as I can tell. Install this OS which makes your hardware unusably slow, so then you feel compelled to go back to the store and buy a new piece of hardware.Read more: http://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-apple-makes-old-iphones-unusably-slow-o n-purpose-2012-3?nr_email_referer=1#ixzz1qWinq5Uu

Same thing with iPads and Flash.

If you are refering to powerpc, those were never "in house" cpus. Both motorola and IBM manufactured powerpc processors and IBM sold them in some of their high end server configurations. Beleive what you will, but there was a time when powerpc cpu's blew the doors off anything from Intel, especially for numeric processing, and very large scale analytical applications. Yes, they got eclipsed eventually by Intel, but from 1999-2005, I'd take (and did so) a powerpc G4 or G5 over anything Intel offered at that time.

Virginia Tech's Power Mac G5 cluster was once one of the fastest computers in the world (ranked #3 in 2003).
