I would like to thank you! I have given up on my girls' iPad. I see gray screen when i click on the Home button. i tried dropping in on the carpet floor 4x and oh my gosh to my amazement, I saw the Home Screen that I screamed so loud. Thank you thank you thank you. -mwh

I tried gingerly dropping mine a couple times and the screen would kind of flicker on and then go back to black, so I got frustrated and slapped the screen, which, to my surprise, fixed it, haha. Thanks for the unconventional advice 😉

So it seems it's a misconnected screen ribbon cable.

Seems to me The method could work or disconnect other cables also.

Looking for something a bit more "logical" but opening an iPad to push back the disconnected cable is not so easy. Have to apply heat...

Amazing. I tried resetting the device several times by holding down both the home and lock buttons for ~10 seconds or until the device restarted-NOTHING.

Then, I dropped the iPad 2 from about 2 feet onto a rug on top of a carpeted floor and viola!-it Works again!!!!

Thank you this thread. I tried the method of dropping iPad a carpeted area, and my iPad screen is available again. The method might sounds ridiculous but it works.

Thank you! I just tapped the back of it, not even that hard, a few times with my palm and it worked.

After 4h of sw update/upgrades and various trials, dropping from 30cm solved the problem.
