Problems with Logitech Laser-Mouse MX-1000

Hi all,

I have been using my Logitech Mouse MX-1000 for about a year now with my old computer and it worked great.

Now with my new MacBook Pro, 2 GHz, the wheel stopped working altogether. No signal, no movement, no nothing.

I have tried the old Logitech Control Center 1.6.2 which can over during the migration - same settings (you cannot open LCC on Intel, I learned), no go.

Then I tried USB overdrive - tired various settings, no go.

Finally I tried Steermouse - no way to program the wheel either...

Did the wheel of the mouse break on me or has anyone been having similar problems recently?

Kind regards from Duesseldorf, Germany,
Thorsten.

I have a Logitech MX1000 Mouse and also a Mighty Mouse which I have been using to date.

Just looked on the Logitech site and noticed that they had posted a Universal update (v2.0). Installed OK - and MX1000 works great.

Doesn't seem to affect Mighty Mouse apart from the tracking needs to be changed when switching between the two mice.

Installs an additional item in Prefs for changing the Mouse Buttons etc.

I too own the MX-1000, but haven't had any similar problems.

It had worked 100% flawlessly prior to the release of the LCC for Intel, and now works 99.9% flawlessly with the LCC - all buttons are functional and the mouse works great.

It sounds like your issue is with the mouse itself, I'd try to get someone from Logitech on the horn to see what warranty options you have.

Try installing the new LCC release on the website, if that doesn't work, I'd call Logitech.

I say mine works 99.9% flawlessly - the last 0.1% is because if you hit the "forward direction" button on the side of the mouse for longer then 0.5 seconds it causes an "eject" function without any eject option set as a button response. Tapping the button has it work for the specified function.

The mouse should work just not have programmable buttons - without the Logitech control center. But the cursor should work, buttons should revert to basic left\right, etc function.

Try "Steermouse" if the Logitech software is still not out or not working - I use it and it works instantly with every mouse (3 different logitech and a mighty mouse) that I plug into the MBP.

It's not free but has a trial period and is $20 I think.
I like it because it lets me assign functions to ALL logitech buttons like my cordless MX610 (not even supported for OS X by logitech) where the logitech software won't let me change buttons for email, messenger, etc.

Also has better tracking\accel\speed settings I think.

Hi, all!

Just a "me, too" to add to oceans' comments about SteerMouse.

I tried then purchased it recently, primarily because it provides what I consider superior mouse tracking speed/acceleration control for my Apple wireless mouse, well beyond the built-in drivers. When I switch to an older Logitech mouse (OpticalMouse11), SteerMouse enables some handy programmable functions I'd never been able to manage before. Thus, worth it to me... [1]
Of course, the new Logitech Control Center 2.0.0 is free, so I'd suggest trying both to evaluate what provides acceptable performance.

Dean
[1] I'd guess the tried-and-true USB Overdrive would also be excellent for this case; I simply haven't tried recent versions because Bluetooth support hasn't been added yet. But it's been the favorite of many Mac folks for years.

Yes LCC opens in System Preferences and allows me to customize my wireless desktop as well as my MX-1000 mouse.

Try uninstalling then reinstalling the LCC. If you tried installing the LCC over the old 1.6.2 version you may still have the 1.6.2 preference pane within the system profiler

So uninstall everything (you can even use the 2.0 uninstaller) and reinstall.

It should work flawlessly, as mine does
