Yahoo contacts disappeared

I have an iPhone 4S. It is on the current IOS 5.1 (9B179). Everything has been working fine, but earlier this week, I lost all of the contacts associated with my Yahoo account. I have tried the following:

- recycled the iPhone (full power down)

- turned off/on the contracts for the Yahoo account

- dropped the Yahoo account completely and readded

- confirmed that the contacts are still on the Yahoo account (via browser)

- confirmed that the contacts are visible on another device (iPad 1 with latest IOS version)

- waiting >24 hours with the Yahoo account re-added to determine if it would resolve itself

In all cases, the net result is the same. The iPhone can connect to the Yahoo account fine (email and calendar are no issues), but when selecting all contacts or even the Yahoo specific contacts, the iPhone is blank, but the account has >100 contacts.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am having this exact same problem. I found a person who had posted a work around but it only restored a small portion of my contacts. This all just happened very suddenly with no particular changes to the device that would seem to cause the problem.

I've got the same problems. Contacts added under a yahoo account thru the iPhone disappear after a few hrs, sometimes shorter.

I've noticed that these new contacts don't sync even via a sync with my iMac

This only started yesterday!

I just got that pain. After update to iOS 5.1 last week, my iPhone 4, which never has problem before, has battery problem. Suck dries battery 50% in 6 hours even without using much. Today,suddenly all my contacts dissapeared. I tried to sync and re-boot and what ever sh**, it's not working. Worst, I'm on business trip now. This really killing me..

My iPhone 4S does sync with my Yahoo account contacts, but every now and then it decides to delete just the mobile number associated with a contact, or a number of contacts. Only contacts in the cloud keep all their data untouched... any random Yahoo contact can at any time have their mobile number erased. (Their e-mail addresses stay untouched.) This has happened multiple times, and even when I re-fill in the mobile number details, it can often disappear again a few months later. Some Yahoo contacts have yet to be affected, others multiple times. No rhyme or reason.

My new theory is Apple are secretly trying to discourage everyone away from Yahoo and deliberately making Yahoo problematic with random acts of sabotage. Then again I love conspiracy theories. And this one is more believable than most! What they are forcing me to do is store everything in the cloud with them.
