How do you change printer settings for faster printing?

We can't figure out how to change our printer settings to print in draft mode. The system only allows for standard mode which is very slow printing. Our HP Office Jet 4680 allows for draft mode printing.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

Have you clicked the blue 'down arrow button' next to your printer name?

(I don't have your specific HP printer, but my HP has lots of additional settings.

(And, yes, the 'plug' icon next to the printer name means I am not attached to it at the moment, but that does not prevent viewing the options available.)

Clicking on the Safari tab(since that is the app I'm using at the moment), these are revealed under 'Color/Quality options'.

On my LaserJet printer, 'Draft' is called 'Economode.'

One more hint. If you successfully locate the 'Draft' or 'Economode' settings, go back to the top of the settings panel where Presets 'Standard' is listed, and click on it. Then choose 'Save As' and name it 'Draft', so it is saved in your print presets for easy retrieval in the future.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We're just Apple users here who frequent Apple Support Communities and though we try to be helpful, we don't speak officially for Apple or Epson.

It's really best to post your question in a brand new message. Not many people who might be able to offer specific help will look at an old message thread that's over 3 years old now, and involving a different brand of printer.

First, do you have the latest Epson Workforce 2540 software driver installed?

If not, do that first. That way, your software should match the most recent instructions that Epson provides.

Epson has this page to assist OS X Yosemite users:

http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/SupportYosemiteDetails.jsp?BV_UseBVCo okie=yes&oid=209708#stage1

Next, download the user guide available for your printer onto your computer:

The instructions I found browsing the manual say to look on the Driver tab to find the High Speed Printing option.

I can't do a screen shot of that because I don't have one of those printers.

Good luck!

Hello-

I have my first Mac. I think it's 10.10.2 Yosemite. It's a macbook pro. How can I change the settings to print on fast draft when I'm on Safari? I have an Epson wf-2540 and there aren't any options to change the settings when printing.

This is specifically on Safari, although I would also like to know how to change the settings in other programs as well.

Thank you--

Jenny

One of the ways to print a faster copy of a document, would be to choose Economy

as it would be quicker than a more dense use of ink, and also takes less time.

The special settings in Epson print drivers are not so great in the more recent OS X.

In Mavericks, the settings to enable custom features are spotty & in some applications

not available at all. There is a "quiet mode" and 'fast mode" - among others. While some

are enabled once set, others are not changed after choosing the custom driver setting.

One driver upgrade did allow Bonjour printing via old AirPort express base station USB,

that had been OK under OS X 10.5.8; so the photo-quality printer can be seen w/o wires

by Mavericks 10.9.5. However the better & custom print settings aren't available in 10.9.

Sadly, one suggested driver upgrade for 10.9.5 & Later, was nearly 1GB in size and it did

not perform as stated; later I found a smaller file that was seen as correct by the OS X.

But I cannot find where other driver 1GB file ended up. That's a bit of wasted resources! 😐
