I have a HD-wedding that I want to export for iDVD using 16:9. I use quicktime conversion because when I used quicktime, it looked absolutely awful.....using quicktime conversion, it is better quality BUT it comes out 4:3, and is tall and thin. Black barn on the left and right side. I have tried all the different settings, but it is still wrong. Can anybody tell me the settings I should use?
Export to QuickTime should give the best quality.
What exactly is wrong with the DVDs when you use it?
What are your sequence settings? Assuming you're using the appropriate sequence settings, you should use quicktime export with current settings and use compressor with the appropriate dvd preset. I'd suggest you customize the preset by changing the resizing to best in the frame controls panel. And then bring the resulting m2v and ac3 files into dvdsp. This workflow will give you much, much better results than idvd.
the pictures will move and the panning is not smooth etc
don't know how to use compressor.....don't understand much of what you write about actually m2v? and ac3?
It is possible you have the incorrect field dominance set.
Click anywhere on your timeline and type Command + 0 {zero} to see your sequence settings. Either report what the sequence settings are or take a screen shot of them and post that here.
Now click on a source clip of video in your FCP browser. Type Command + 9 to see the item properties. Either report what the item properties for your source clips are or take a screen shot of them and post that here.

But I took a picture of the first thing. However the computer is not letting me upload it. So it says:

this is very basic stuff. Do some googling on building simple dvdsp projects. It's not complicated.

your footage is not HD it is SD.
you need to change your edit settings to match your footage, then export as a QT using current settings (dont use quicktime conversion) & take that QT into compressor & make the files for your DVD.
sorry, i see that the item you selected & posted was for "slug"
check an actual piece of footage & see if it matches what the slug specs were.
I tried to use compressor, but it's too long of a story to explain why that didn't work. When I export it in quicktime, it looks absolutely horrible.
How do you know my footage is SD? and how do I change it to HD?

the specs you posted for slug were 720 X 480. interlaced lower, DV/DVCPRO NTSC, which is 4:3 not 16:9
you put it in an HDV sequence. is that not correct (1440 X 1080)?
create a new sequence & cut a piece of your footage into it.
it should ask you if the settings are different if you want the sequence settings top match the clip.
select yes.
then export out as a QT.
i have never used iDVD, but assume you know what to do once you a QT you like?
