issues with Alesis io/2

Hi,

My question is, has anyone actually worked out the issues with alesis hardware io/2 and garageband? There are threads going back to 2007 and the UK support for alesis suggest the following:

Thank you for your email.

What OS version are you running? If you are running 10.4.10 or later I would suggest trying the following:

1. Download Pacifist from www.versiontracker.com AND the 10.4.9 COMBO(!) Update from Apples download-pages.

2. Open the combo-update package with Pacifist. In the opened package in Pacifist: Browse to /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBAudio.kext. Mark it (and this one ONLY), and click "Install" in Pacifist.

3. When asked, overwrite all files. When done, run "Update Prebinding for Entire System" from the "Prebinding"-menu. You should not need to check the "Force all files..."-option.

4. Reboot the system, and plug in your device. It should show up. If not, wait some. If no then, run the "USB Prober" Application from the Apple xcode developer tools package.

Hopefully this should solve any issues you are having when using the IO2 with GarageBand.

Hmmmmm... But I'm running 10.6.8 so what happens if I take this combo?

Hardly what you'd call a plug and play no drivers needed bit of kit is it? I just want to know if I should sent the piece of s*** back or conform and use the cubase le4 they sent (which by the way freezes up at the last point of install)

And there was me all revved up to make some noise! o_O
