I am trying to import media from a Sony Cx 760 video camera. iMovie recognizes the camera and will import, but FCP X (updated today) will not. It reconizes that an unknown camera is attached, and will not import the movie. Any ideas on how to get the files into FCP X?

Are you new to FCP X or have you successfully imported video with other cameras?
I have used FCP X with my Sony VX 2100 with no issues. I moved up to HD with the CX 760. I note that I cannot import a 50 fpm i stream, and that is not what I have with the CX 760.
Please explain exactly what you're doing and what happens when you do it.
I turn on my computer, a Mac Pro, and open FCP X. I connect the CX 760 to the computer using the supplied USB cable. I turn on the CX 760 which recognizes it is connected to a computer and asks me whether I want to use the USB connection. I answer yes and FCP X brings up the camera capture screen. It tells me that an unknown camera is attached and will not import any of the video that has been captured.
As I said originally, iMovie recognizes the CX 760 and will import the vidoe.
So the camera import window launches automatically. What to you see listed in the upper left of the window? What happens if you click Open Archive and select the camera in the desktop? What are the exact specifications of the media you shot? Is the media on the camera hard drive or on a card?
The upper left hand of the window shows the video camera icon and says "NO NAME". When I go to open archive I get the same NO NAME. I click on that and get AVCHD. If I click on that I still get no import. By opening AVCHD I get BDMV. Clicking on that gets no import. By openbing BDMV I get "MOVIEOBJ.BDM" and "INDEX.BDM" but these are in light gray and cannot be opened. I also get "STREAM", "PLAYLIST" and "CLIPINF". Each of these, when opened give only light gray choices which will not open.
I shot at a 60 fps i setting to the hard drive of the camera. I hope this helps.
You cannot import 59.94fps or 50fps media into FCP using the camera import function. You need to use ClipWrap or Media Converter to rewrap this media into QuickTime bore you can import it and edit it in the application.
Thank you. ClipWrap was the answer. I wonder why FCP X will not import 59.94 fps or 50 fps? Too much data?
50/60p was added to the AVCHD standard after FCPX was released. You might want to go here http://www.apple.com/feedback/finalcutpro.html and ask Apple to add this feature (I did already :-) ).
Apparently the 1.0.4 update of FCPX does import from Sony CX 760V, both 24 fps and 60 fps.
I was not very happy 2 weeks ago when I found I could not import from my new camcorder. But now that worry has been removed. Thanks to Apple for being rather quick with this one!
