I have both a mac.com address and a me.com address. which should be my icloud apple id?

If the name before the @ is the same, then they are the same account. You can use either or both interchangeably.
You can use them interchangeably if you do actually have both.
Thank you! That helped. I had to delete my mac account on my ipad and sign in as my me account because the icloud server was rejecting my mac email address but the me.com email worked fine.
