Q: Broken Motherboard

My 17" MacBook Pro failed to boot up this week and my IT provider at work has diagnosed

a motherboard failure. It is at least 3 years old and I am wondering if it is worth

spending the money to get it repaired or whether I should bite the bullet and

replace with a new MacBook ? I am told there was a recall for this issue but

it must have passed me by. Any point in approaching Apple ?

Thanks for this.
I checked purchase date. Late March 2008 so technically 1 week over 4 years old !
Also mine is a 2.6GHz and the bulletin talks only of 17" 2.4GHz does that matter do you
think ?

What matters most is the cutoff date. If I were you, I'd make an appointment at an Apple store, print out the support article I referenced you, take it & your computer, give both to the genius, and shut up. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
