Why does my macbook pro screen suddenly turn blue?

I got my Macbook Pro only 6 months ago, and supposedly, it is a really strong and good computer: 2GHz Intel Core i7 with Version Mac OS X 10.6.8.

A couple of times a week the screen suddenly turns blue. I can't really figure out a pattern as to when it does it. Often, I'll be switching between word and a pdf and then it just suddenly turns blue and I can't use any bottons. I just recently discovered that if I simply close the Macbook and open it up again, then I'll get back to where I was before it turned blue. In this way, I can make the computer 'wake up' by closing and opening it once or twice. Also, I can force the computer to shut down by holding the switch-off botton down for a while.

However, something is obviosly wrong, and it is anoying and also, I would like to find out if it is a hardware problem before it's too late to get it fixed within the hardware-protection period of 1 year after purchase.

I just formatted the hard drive a couple of days ago and re-installed everything, but it still happens. Also, I tried to do the 'hold down option-command-R-P'-thing but it hasn't solved the problem.

I hope someone can help me?

Thanks for replying!

I ran a hard ware test using this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509?viewlocale=da_DK (IN DANISH) today and it detected no hardware problems. However, considering that I just reinstalled everything on the computer a couple a days ago, I find it hard to believe that it is a software problem.

Unfortunately, we haven't got Apple Genius Bar's in Denmark. I was hoping someone in here had encounted similar problems and could help me detect the problem.

I have exactly the same problem 3 month ago and until now it still happen. I took my macbook pro into apple store two time. first time, they check that diagnosis of the hardward generated and it turn out clear. nothing happen to it. then they check my software and find that there is something wrong with safari. so they decided to reinstall everything.

And they told me to not install everything back from your time machine just install the folder that I want. And try that for 2 weeks. Since that it been working fine until last week, macbook suddenly turn blue again but this time it shown random colour with line and shape before it turn to blue screen.

Now i dont know what to do as mine warranty just expired 3 days before it happen. I think it gonna cost a lot without warranty.
