I set my magic mouse middleclick at Tap Middle with BBT.
In previous versions of safari, middleclick works for open in new tab and close tab (when I click selected tab middleclick) but now close doesn't work.
What I can do with this?

Scroll over the tab, and in the left corner there will be a X. Click the X to close the tab. If that dosen't work, click the tab and press ⌘+W to close the tab.

Same. I know you can close with the 'x' but it's so annoying to have to click on a smaller area and I keep forgetting because I use middle click automatically. Why on earth would they remove this feature? It isn't even like it was replaced by anything, and it is generally the shortcut on other browsers also.

Check your settings in System Preferences > Mouse
And delete the cache associated with Safari.
Quit Safari. Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db. Move the Cache.db file to the Trash. Relaunch Safari to test.
For Lion v10.7.x: To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library
I found solution for this 🙂
First you need download and install SIMBL.
After this download http://cloud.github.com/downloads/Kabal/MiddleClickClose/MiddleClickClose.bundle .zip and drop *.bundle to the folder:
Library\Application Support\SIMBL\Plugins
you can found it at hard drive if you don't have it on user folder.
Next just relunch safari and it will works 🙂

The highest released version of Safari is V5.1.5 so I think you have a typo. Can you clarify your version.
I use version 5.2, from my safari dev account.

I made Safari my default browser coming from long term use of Firefox. This middle click thing was goign to be a make or break deal using Safari. Thanks for the info that kept me on Safari, Konrado!
