Why can't I sync Google Contacts to Address Book anymore?

This used to work and it doesn't anymore. I can verify I'm entering my credentials correctly. It doesn't sync to Address Book on the Mac, nor my iPhone. It's as if Apple decided to turn this feature off without telling us?

I enter my Google credentials and then nothing happens...

My address book does it automatically. And as of yesterday was working just fine. I haven't updated my Google contacts today so I can't check but I would assume that if it didn't sync up when I powered on my system this morning it would of notified me as to that fact.

Just did a manual Sync and it seemed to have worked.

On your iPhone go to settings➝ Mail, Contacts, and Calendar and make sure contacts is turned on. On your mac if you have lion go to System Prefrences➝Mail, Contacts, and Calendar and make sure contacts is turned on. If your mac has a OS that came before lion, go to Address Book➝Preferences➝Accounts, and make sure that your gmail account is on the list.

I went into System Preferences -> Mail, Contacts and Calendar and added my Google account (it wasn't there previously). I've got Mail & Notes, Calendars and Chat all tied to my Google account.

I am confused by your comment about Address Book and Lion. I am on Lion but it appears that adding one's Google account to Address Book -> Preferences -> Accounts is still necessary. I already had my Google account entered here but nothing is happening still. No contacts are being synced/imported. Any other thoughts? At this point I'm taking the iPhone out of the equation completely. I just want to know why Address Book on the Mac won't sync at all and won't throw any errors.

Also, I should note: Both on iOS and OSX, I'm not seeing a "Contacts" option under Mail, Contacts and Calendar. Only Mail, Calendars and Notes.

Are you sure you typed in the correct username and password for your Google login/mail/contacts?

Open Address book select Preferences go to the Accounts page put a checkmark in Sync with Google then click the configure button (if it doesn't auto come up).

If you have done that you should see a curved, rounded, double arrow in the menu bar. Click that double arrow and select Sync Now.

You can uncheck the Sync with Google and then recheck it and then type in your username and password again.

Also kcheck in Keychain Access to make sure it has been enter there correctly. It is under GoogleContactsSyncService. Highlight it, right click and select Get Info. you will need to check off Show Password and type in your Mac login password to see the Google contacts password.

We are finding the new iPad not as intuitive as we thought! We took awhile to realise the contacts icon leads to the iPad contact list( where you can see them all, but we haven't worked out how to import to it), is different to the contacts list in gmail.

It is best to set up all your contacts in gmail on a laptop, by importing from a Windows client like Outlook, or just using existing gmail contacts, Yahoo contacts etc, and then when you log on to gmail using the iPad, you wont see a list of them, that you can edit, browse or select by ticking them, like on the laptop, but you have to add each person you want to email by typing a letter or two from their name, or the Group they are in, and they pop into the address box.

You have to set up the Groups in gmail on your laptop...

good luck,

Had same issue. To my surprise, Radio Shack support (where I got my iphone) was very helpful. You need to Delete your gmail account in the normal spot in System Preferences. Then go and Add an Account and click on Microsoft Exchange (go figure!). Fill out the info on username, etc. (Leave the Domain field blank). When it asks for the Server Name, enter m.google.com. Otherwise, the items are obvious. Voila. It worked. Now Contacts shows up in System Preference which it didn't before.

Why can't I sync Google Contacts to Address Book anymore?
