what does the blue exclamation mark mean in itunes?

I thought I had successfully transferred my library to a new computer and have tried to sync my ipod to itunes on this new computer, but out of 4400 and something songs, only 332 have synced. All the others have a blue exclamation mark next to them. I've tried all the advice about manual synching and such like but can't get the music! Please help...
