I want to connect the HDMI output from my Mac Mini to a LG W1946 monitor which has a VGA input. I have tried two HDMI-VGA cables and each time the monitor fails to display and gives the message "check signal cable". Any ideas?

I want to connect the HDMI output from my MAc Mini to a LG W1946 monitor which has a VGA input. I have tried two different VGA-HDMI cables and each time get the message on the monitor "check signal cable". Any ideas?

If your monitor also supports DVI, then you can use the supplied HDMI to DVI Adapter and a DVI cable.

If your monitor only supports VGA, then you will need to use Apple's Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter connected to the Mac Mini's combination Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort.

you wont get the HDMI to work with the VGA.

HDMI is a digital signal and VGA is analog.

Use a VGA to minidisplay adpater.
