Can the apple tv remote be used as a universal remote also for an iPod touch?

I'm thinking of buying an apple tv. Can i use the remote tha comes together with the apple tv for my iPod touch 4g?

I mean, if my iPod touch 4g is stayong on a dock(philips fidelio ds3020) can i control it with this remote or i should buy another one seld separately?
