MOTU 828 / Optical Out / Garageband

My Motu 828 is configured to output audio from Garageband; however, the optical out on the 828 isn't outputting any optical signals. The optical out functions fine outside of Garageband, like iTunes for example. I would like to send an optical signal from Garageband/828 to an optical input on my Tascam CDR so I can skip a step and not have to export my songs to iTunes (then burn a CD in iTunes). Any helpers out there?

Any takers?

I'm assuming it's a GB issue because I can get an optical signal from the 828 to the CD-RW 2000 using iTunes... but not in GB.

I'm using MOTU FireWire Audio Consle ROM: 1.01; hardware v4; driver: 1.07. "Default Stereo Output" is set to TOSLink 1-2 and "Optical Output" is set to TOSLink

set up the optical in's and outs on your Motu
firewire console 1st, then you should be able to
access it with Garageband

I'm not sure what you mean here because that's what I've been trying to do: employ optical outs on MOTU so it can be used with Garageband.

Optical outs are functioning when outside of Garageband (i.e. iTunes). I'm able to use optical outs on the 828 when I'm outputting from iTunes.

In GB, optical outs are NOT functioning, and I'm unable to get an optical signal to the CD-RW when using GB.

I don't see how it can be a GB issue then. It's most likely that the driver for the 828 is a little funky. Have you tired contacting MOTU? They may have had other people with the same problem ( although they may not admit it ). Is that a Firewire 828 or a USB 828? If it's USB, you're not using a hub are you?

Danny I also noticed that you were using driver 1.0.7. That's an old driver and they now have 1.4.1. You can download the new driver by going here:

Hope that helps you out.

I downloaded the driver and I'm still having the same issue: unable to get a optical out signal using Garageband.

Thanks for the link to the driver
