Phantom marks

Sorry to bombard everyone with questions!

I also edit on Media Composer. I really do like FCP Studio (unless Magic Bullet Misfire is crashing it), but one thing I haven't been able to find in the manuals, my handy "Final Cut for Avid Editors" book, or the forums is the answer to the following question:

In Media Composer, Avid will display what they call "Phantom Marks" in the viewer window. These In/Out marks would indicate, based on what your In/Out points were in your timeline, the same amount of time within the clip loaded into the viewer. Does FCP5 have anything like phantom marks and I just don't know how to enable them?

Thanks!

Nope. The markers aren't as advanced as Avids.

And try not to make FCP do things the Avid does...most times it won't. it does things in its OWN way...that are as good, or better...or worse as you now know.

I too am too used to the way markers work in the Avid...but what you are talking about is a WAY advanced marker feature, and the markers in FCP are basic. But getting there.

Shane,

Thanks, yeah, I'm getting used to the differences, and so far, I don't really see them as good or bad, just different. The tight integration that I've experienced so far from FCStudio apps is definately a good thing though. I really do enjoy FCP, and I think it is a very powerful program capable of holding it's own just fine against Media Composer, at least for what I am doing. The book I mentioned earlier has been a big help in getting used to doing Avid type things in FCP. Wicked!

I do miss me some phantom marks though. Since you too are used to the Avid In/Out, have you found any reasonable workarounds for phantom marks in FCP? Or am I going to suck it up and hone my timecode math skills?

Thanks again for the help!

Matthew
