My deepest thanks to everyone in the Apple Support Communities

I am a 74-year-old newby to the world of Mac. I have always had to use Windows based PCs at work. After I retired, I purchased a beautiful 27" iMac and I realize that until now, I was only working with half a computer. Three times I needed to submit a question to the Support Communities, and I was greaty impressed not only by the speedy responses, but by the friendliness and knowledge of all who helped me. I don't mean to put down Microsoft, but whenever I submitted a question to their groups, IF it got answered, it was always with another question. I was never able to get a direct answer. Also the people were rather snobby and liked to show off how little you knew. I always felt like it was a private clique and I was intruding. Once, I had to call Apple for assistance and I was so impressed by the help and care I was shown. In fact, I received a call the next day as a follow-up. Don't ever try to call Microsoft for assistance. You are told at the start to have your credit card ready.

My deepest thanks to everyone. I love My new mac, and moreover, I love the help and frendliness I have gotten from the Communities. Thanks to all of you.

Thank you for your kind reply.

There is a strong user to user community here to assist others with the best interest at heart.

You are told at the start to have your credit card ready.

Same thing occurs with Apple after three months unless you bought the AppleCare (you can buy it up to 1 year after original date of machine purchase) which will then give you three years (from the date of machine purchase) of care and warranty.

Apple is a business and support costs a lot of money in human effort so it's understandable.

I really advise getting AppleCare if you haven't already.

Look over your backup plan options, because everyting can be replaced except your personal files.

I'll also add that this is very nice of you to post your thoughts. Since these discussions are generally to help people, we don't often see positive notes.

Since you're new to macs, I'd second ds store's suggestion to get Applecare. Besides the additional 2 years of hardware warranty, you can talk to Apple support anytime during your first 3 years of ownership.

Not to hijack the OP's thread but how come this topic is non-technical and requires no support. But when I posted a topic, non-technical and no need for tech support, earlier on the iPod touch community; my post was deleted by the Apple moderator.

So is this how Apple community forum works?

I am a first time Apple device owner and I got treated really bad just for asking a question. sigh... and to think I was excited in owning my first Apple device. sigh...

I apologize to the OP for posting here since I find it strange and searched for other non-technical topics(no technical support needed topics) if it is normal for posts to get deleted.

You might want to take the time to reread the Terms of Use you agreed to here. This is a user-to-user support site so there would be no way for anyone here to answer your question. It is also a question regarding Apple policies which is also not allowed. If you really want to know the answer, and I doubt you will find it, you could call AppleCare and ask to be transferred to customer service. But your question is akin to asking Ford why they selected the colors for their car. It is a corporate decision and they aren't going to respond.

You will find more of us around here, just give it a chance. I've had a fair share of postes deleted and received the moderator missive so you really aren't in much of an exclusive club. And I think you will find if you run into a problem with your Touch you will be able to get it sorted very quickly around here. Don't take it as anything personal.

If you do a bit of googling you will probably find some sites where design wonks have discussed your very question (as you may have notice Apple is really into design) and find various opinions on it. And as September approaches you will see a number of rumor sites (Macrumors, engadget, etc) and magazines will come up with a number of photoshopped speculative designs. You might want to give the rumor sites a shot, they really are amusing if you are into that sort of thing.

smtjs --

I can't tell you how nice it is to read your post. We're all just other Mac users here . . . We've arrived probably knowing very little, and through asking questions and just hanging around here, tons of us are now help others.

Sometimes, it can seem like we're not making any difference . . . It's so very seldom anyone takes the time to post something as encouraging andgratifying as yours. You've given us all a tremendous gift.

@Thomas --

As Deggie said, there are tons of us here. Early on, I had a ton of posts deleted too. Not to worry. As time goes on, you learn the ins and outs here. In the meanwhile, just know that Apple has supplied this site for us all to use, and IMHO, it's a great resource and gift.

Hang in. We'll all be here for ya!

Just a thought Sid, amd a propos credit cards:

You should carefully consider buying AppleCare (which extends your warranty by two years). Free telephone support ends after 90 days, anfter which you will be asked for $49 when you call and ask for help.

Needless to say, any help you ask for and get (or even if not) from these forums is entirely free! 🙂

My deepest thanks to everyone in the Apple Support Communities
