Received a text for iPad 3 beta testers offering free iPad 3.

Received this about an hour ago from 1-201-912-9198. It read: Apple is looking for people to Test & Keep the New iPad 3!... Go to to http://ipad3winner.info. and enter code BETA. Anybody know if this is legit? Thanks a bunch.

At least they have changed the story a little. The last round of free pad offers didn't mention the beta test. Hey, if you are interest, I have a 2006 Nissan that needs some beta testing. Let me know, we can work something out. Free, but you pay shipping and handling, and a small set up and activation fee.

If he just entered that personal info, all that should happen is he'll get flooded by spam email and possibly telemarketers. If he didn't enter his bank account or any financial info, then he should be fine. Some of these scams are just trying to harvest email info to then send out more attempts to scam people out of money at later time, others try it directly at the time (asking for credit card info or bank account).

Curiousity killed the cat, I hope not. I got a text to my phone saying Apple is looking for people to Test & Keep the New IPAD 3, but only the first 1000 users that to to the site http//:ipad3winner.co and enter code BETA will receive it. I STUPIDLY (I know better) out of sheer curioutsy entered the code BETA, but nothing came up, no survey no nothing and I quickly clicked out of it. I am not sure what this means and a bit worried. Nothing picked up on my anti-virus software. Do you think any damage has been done?

I don't know about everyone else, but these deals are usually scams to steal your identity or legally get all your money because of bad judgement. I can say, however, that my friend accepted this test on a website on Facebook and did actually get an iPad 3 a couple days later. She was in shock and I just finished filling out my own info sheet. I kind of changed some details to protect my identity, and I put my neighbors address. No worries for me. Just use your judgement correctly. I wrote this on my iPad 2
