Apr 2, 2012 7:24 AM in response to Ragmahby ajaytemp,Assuming it was no null-ed or zero-ed out 300 times it would be recoverable .
Ad-hoc software at a price is available . It decode the fixed MBR (master boot record) and the OS-specific FAT (file allocation table.) If it finds the entire FAT recoverable , then the hard drive is in good condition .
Otherwise , another tool to recover from the voltage field is recquired .

Apr 2, 2012 2:56 PM in response to Ragmahby Ronda Wilson,What is the hard drive capacity and how much space remains available on it? It's usually recommended to keep at least 15% of the hard drive as available space. A too-full hard drive can cause weird things to happen (such as disappearing icons from the Desktop).

Apr 2, 2012 8:33 PM in response to Ragmahby Ronda Wilson,Did you have the actual files on the Desktop, or were they aliases?
Which version of Mac OS X is installed on the iBook?

They were actual files, and not aliases The version of OSX is Tiger, I remembered that because of the William Blake poem Tiger Tiger, I do very much appreciate you taking the time to help.

Apr 5, 2012 5:27 PM in response to Ragmahby ajaytemp,Good question . At this point , do not pass go and try a direction of dual-booting with LINUX ;
and then use the utilities with it , to recover files that OS X Leopard will not .
I had experienced this after using OS X Leopard Time Machine software . Then it went incompatible with Windows MBR partition and just gave me a weird weird hard-time ...

Apr 6, 2012 4:08 AM in response to Ragmahby Ronda Wilson,Can you create aliases for these files and click and drag the aliases to the Desktop? (This is just as good, and probably a better idea.)
