OEM OS image

The pawn shop where i purchased the iBOOK G4 is charing 65.00 USD for an initial assesment and an undisclosed amount to reimage the OS using a CD they share with themself . I assumed 20 min for the reimage .

I told them it would only take 20 min(ute) to reimage and I would wait outside shopping somewhere nearby .

No . Is all i heard .

Other manufacturers allow to download the original OS or OEM image from the Home Site . This was recently discontinued favoring Apples trend of disallowed .

This would hurt economy . And tax receipts are less .

It would cause less market share too for a corporation .

Bye

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.

Which exact iBook model is it?

You can choose from this list:

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ibook/index-ibook.html

Which version of the operating system is it running now?

How much RAM is installed?

What kind of optical drive does it have? (CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, Combo, or SuperDrive?)

An "undisclosed amount"? I wouldn't go for that AT ALL.

What are the symptoms you are experiencing?

Which version of the OS is installed on it now?

I am experience that non-Apple OSs such as Linuxs' and Unix BSD version for PowerPC that also have a GUI will not install .

And then we are left on a BIOS command prompt typing 'eject-CD' because the installation does not eject the CD appropriately at the right times .

That is why others' and I are searching for an original Apple Leopard OS for PowerPC !

Thanks

Is it a model which meets Leopard's system requirements?

Two years ago when Ms Rhonda posted a suitable link for you to research this information and reply you chose to not do so, you could have then carried the computer to an Apple Store with Genius bar (free service to diagnose issues, free to have them help you identify what exact build model you have, out of many iBook models built) and you chose an (un) wise reply.

The PowerPC Mac never used a bios such as PCs did, but the information in the running OS X or Mac OS prior to system10, was available in System Profiler, among other places. With external information on the iBook's case, using the Everymac.com site or the page link no longer active, you could have found you own answer.

We who reply here are volunteers and this is a user-to-user discussion area. We are not Apple Support nor do we as individuals have obligation to give you support when you did not reply two years ago for the necessary information for someone to delve into the Build Model Indentifier specifications to find more exact info to formulate a resolution to your then issue.

•How to Identify iBook Models:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1772

•Apple iBook Specs (ALL iBook Technical Specs)

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ibook/index-ibook.html

The first iBook (G3/clamshell) circa 1999, last iBook(G4) circa 2005.

Your issue - now - is anyone's guess.

You marked your own post as "Solved/Answered" some time ago

and once that is done, if you did not bother with the courtesy of

compliance with the requests for additional Build Model info, then

you must not have been serious in helping others help yourself.

The Apple Store with Genius bar, or Apple Specialist at authorized

service provider location may be able to answer vintage questions.

They (or see official country region store/contact online) are best

to handle questions about software license, or support issues.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
