Converting Itunes to MP3

I own a Garmin Road Tech Zumo GPS for my motorcycle. I have tied to convert my Libray on Itunes to MP3 files as suggested so I can play music through my GPS. When I follow the instructions from Itunes as well as other sources I am unsuccesful. What I end up with is MPEG-4 audio file (m4a). I download the music to a SanDisk 8 GB which plays through Itunes but when I install the Disk into the GPS it says no "No MP3 files found".

I'm sure I am doing something wrong but I can't figure it out. Any help out there from an old guy with ZERO tech skills.

I tried what you said. All looks good until I select a song, go to "advanced", and select "convert to mp3". Get a window that says: "None of the selected files were converted because they could not be found." Please help. (I got a Sandisk mp3 player for husband for Father's Day and he still can't use it.) Also, keep in mind that I'm a tech idiot.

Thank you. Persis

Kin Penguin:

I use iTunes 11 and did the following to create a ringtone. Pref>Import Settings>AAC Version. Highlighted the song>right click for Get Info>set start and stop time and Ok. Then right select on the highlighted song>Create AAC Version and get this: None of the selected files were converted because they could not be found. What am I doing wrong?
