how do you hook up an lcd projector to a Mac

First time to use my Mac with a Power Point presentation, where do you plug the LCD projector in?

iPad 2, iOS 5.0.1

If your Mac is of recent vintage, first you go to the Apple Store (online or brick&mortar) and purchase an appropriate adapter for whatever kind of video input the projector has. Usually a VGA will do.

Then you plug it into the Thunderbolt jack on the Mac and the cable from the projector, fire up the Mac and let it recognize the device. You may have to visit the Displays pane on System Preferences and fiddle around with the resolution settings for optimal viewing. Note you have two choices: video mirroring, where the Mac and the projector show the same thing, or independent displays, where each has its own stuff.

Old Macs used to have direct video output. Either S-Video or DVI-X. But that was back in early 2008 or before.
