About the keyboard

I just bought a Macbook pro and chose 'Backlit Keyboard (French) & User's Guide' (thinking get a azerty keyboard) but when I received the confirmation email I saw 'Keyboard/Users Guide-CAN'. Do you think I will have a French azerty keyboard or a French qwerty?

Well, as per this article ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2841 ), if the Mac was fitted with a French keyboard, you will be getting AZERTY. However, if they gave you the Canadian French keyboard, you are out of luck. If the Mac was not a custom order, you can return it for replacement.

I think it will be neither. It will be what Apple calls French Canadian. See here

(It is based on QWERTY.)

Where did you order it?

Ah, there's the rub! Just checked on both the Canada and Belgium Apple Stores and found that in Canada you get two keyboard choices, English or French (both extended QUERTY), whereas in Belgium you get four, Belgian (AZERTY), Swiss (extended QUERTY+special symbols), International English or standard US English.

I think you are going to get an extended QUERTY French Canadian keyboard. If the keyboard is the only customization you ordered, I think you can return it for full refund if the box is unopened. And the only way to get an AZERTY keyboard will be by ordering from an EU French-speaking country.

Only two countries use AZERTY, France and Belgium (maybe also some of their former colonies). Both Swiss French and Canadian French keyboards are based on QWERTY.

Usually, you get what Apple provides in that country. I don't know if it is possible to order an MBP with an AZERTY keyboard—your friend should contact the Apple Store in Montréal or in Québec, those would be the likely places for it.
