A few questions about common "issues" before buying New iPad

I am hoping to pick up the new iPad in the next few weeks, however I have read up on some issues which I'd like some information on.

I have been using my GF's iPad 2 a lot and I really love it, however I am dead set on buying the new one, I have become pretty resolution-spoilt by the awesome screen on the 4S and this is the primary factor in wanting this new model.

With the following concerns, assuming that an iPad that I may buy might have one or more of them, could you please inform me of: any currently known official or unofficial fix, if the problem could most likely be resolved in an update or if it is likely that since the problem came to light that the later runs to be built were adjusted to avoid the problem? Thanks.

OK- first up, the bad wifi problem that people have. This is the biggest concern to me, as I use wifi a lot and won't have access to 4G, and only occasionaly access to 3G.

Secondly, the heating... OK this is not a deal breaker, I understand that it isn't a real problem however if it could be solved so that it runs almost as cool as the 2 that would be great.

Thirdly, charge times and the extra hour over 100%... Again I do realise that these aren't so much issues as just the way that it works, however I would hope that now lots of people have complained, an update would adjust the display to be more accurate, to say 100% only when it has fully charged, purely because I would rather know... Or perhaps have 100% change colour on absolute 100%. The other thing, 7 hours charging, is there a more powerful adaptor that 1: reduces the charge time, and 2: if you are using a powerdrinking app while charging, will actualy continue charging rather than just slowing the battery drain (I read that some apps will keep draining battery while on charge).

finaly, I have read about screen hue problems, this wont be too much of a problem, as I will be able to check this in store to be sure that the screen is nice, colour balanced and free of dead pixels, I will compare it to my GFs iPad 2 and also the iPhone 4, because I know that the iPad 2 is supposed to look a little more blue to give it a cold feel, while the new model and the iPhone 4S have a slightly yellowed screen for warmth, it's just that lots of people have complained about theres' being too yellow.

Thanks very much for any useful info on this.

These are some very good questions. I had concerns about this new hardware myself, but have been enjoying trouble free operation. So far, I've used the new iPad extensively each day since release.

Wifi

My configuration is this: A time capsule set on 5 GHz N mode. I have no problems using the iPad throughout the house, on any floor. This iPad connects more reliably than my MacBook Pro. I have the Verizon model.

Charge

It is true that the display and other resources use a significant amount of power. However, at most, even in graphics intensive apps, the unit becomes only mildly warm. I generally use while connected to the included 10 watt supply. The battery always remains charged. Charging is consistent even while in use. During discharge, 100 percent hangs around for some time also. The battery indicator certainly let's you know when it is completely charged (it is some time after hitting 100 percent).

Screen

I don't have an iPad 2 for comparison, but have been more than happy with the display. This alone is worth the price of admission. The general light cast matches my Cinema Display, which has a tradition fluorescent backlight. As such, there is a slight warmth overall. However, the color saturation is the most striking attribute.

Your mileage may vary, but (to me anyway) there are not any show stoppers. Hope to see you around here again. Have a good afternoon.

If you read about these problems, then you read about all the variations of these problems and how some people have them and some do not.

Wiithout buying the new iPad, there is no way to know if you would have one of those problems.

I personally do not have any of the problems on my new iPad, but does that really help you?

Other people have specifics problems with their's. Does that help you?

Buy it, see if you like it. If you have one of those problems or you think you do and you simply cannot live with it, the return it :-)

From what I've seen around here I don't think there is a wifi problem moreso than general wifi problems. Wifi is just always a finicky thing. Lots of moving parts.

Seems like a few people have had their device heating more than normal, not sure if that's some new bug or expected behavior, but it does come with a 1year warranty, so if it is a problem you can get your iPad repaced. Not a big deal.

I don't know about the charging thing, again though, warranty.

What are all the differences between the iPad 3rd Gen and the iPad 2? Is the iPad 2 worth the cost savings?

A lot of the posts about lack of charging is because iPad "3" users are trying to use an iPod charger, iPhone charger or connected to their computer where they get the "Not Charging" indication. A few others had a defective charger that was replaced by Apple. It remotely possible that a few iPads have defective batteries or charging circuits.

Many of the wifi connection problems are related to the users brand of wireless routers, the router setup, or the need to select a different wireless channel due to interference.

The high temp problem seems to be when users are charging AND running games with intensive graphics. The display on the new iPad takes a lot more power than the iPad 2 display.

Overall I would guess that the chance of a defective iPad is less than 1%.

Thanks, that was a very useful reply

It seems that I may have worded the original post to sound like like I beleive that all those problems are in every iPad... I do realise that I am likely to get a 100% percent iPad, I just want to be aware of the options available if I am struck with a bad one - Although I am from UK I live in Mexico in a city named Oaxaca, where between me and my GF we have more iPads and iPhones (one of each) than the iStore here has ever had, and I will be going to the USA for one week where I intend to buy the iPad, and replacement/repair is not an option, so IN THE EVENT OF ANY ISSUES i would like to be aware of what to do - just like however rare a fire is, there are always instructions about what to do in the event of a fire... For those throwing hospital metaphores. It is wise to make an informed purchase, not a blind purchase.

I'm glad none of you have had any issues anyway, the iPad is a truely remarkable product and I look forward to joining you guys in the 3rd gen iPad users club
