How to set up the airport express to extend the network

Please check out the following Apple Support article for details on the different methods available to you to extend your AirPort's wirelesss network.

The AirPort Express can "extend" the existing wireless network....using wireless only....if your "main" wireless router is also an Apple product.

Can you clarify on the make and model number of your existing wireless router?

The AirPort Express cannot be configured to "extend a wireless network" if the signal is being provided by another manufacturer's router.

I used to use Airport express to extend a network on a Belkin router. Is this no longer possible?

Apple's official statement regarding this is......

"AirPort Express can extend the range only of an AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express wireless network"

Without testing your Belkin router, it would not be possible to say whether this would work using Apple's "Extend a wireless network" settings.....but I would be very surprised if it did.

The Express can "join" virtually any network. But, it does not provide any additional wireless signal coverage in this setting.

I think I wasn't saying what I thought I was saying. It sounds like join was what I meant- so that I could use Air Tunes on my network.

Thanks for clearing that up. Now I will go hide my virtual head in shame.
