I cannot receive or send mail on my btinternet account, message saying username and password incorrect

I have recently been unable to access my btinternet mail account on my imac.

I just get a message saying that my username or password is incorrect.

When I reset these, they are rejected. I can pick up main on my ipad with these settings, but my desktop (Imac) will not accept the password.

Tried BT (Yahoo) but they tell me it's an Apple problem.

Any ideas?

How are you attempting to access your mail? Via a web browser? Via the Mail application? The more information you can provide the more likely somebody on this discussion board will be able to help.

If you are using the Mail application (or something similar) have you confirmed that you have your btinternet account configured correctly? Here's a link to the btinternet setup site:

Hi Stocky 1001,

As of Sunday 6th Oct 2013, I still have the same problem, except it is my iPad that cannot send mail from my ***********@btinternet.com e-mail address.

I don't have an iMac.

ALL settings ARE correct, but BT STILL says it is NOT their problem.

It also only 'sometimes' works on my Win Vista PC using Outlook 2007. In the event of NOT working in Win Vista/Office 2007 I keep getting 'Enter Network Password' - despite the fact that it ALREADY HAS THE RIGHT PASSWORD'.

Resetting my password only fixes the Outlook 2007 problem temporarily, because after about 3 days to a week it stops working again. Re-setting my password does NOT Fix the 'iPad version' of the problem.

HOW do you get it fixed? What did BTYahoo say was the cause?

Thanks, in advance for any relevant info. :) :)

To anyone else reading the above question,

The 'answer' to my 'problem' was solved by deleting my 'btinternet.com' e-mail account from my iPad.

You can 're-install' it (as I did) using the 'Yahoo' option, instead of the 'Other' option,

Go to: Settings;

Go to Mail, Contacts and Calenders;

Select ADD another account.

Enter your previous Name, E-Mail Address, and Password, and Description (you can call it what you like), in the box provided.

You SHOULD then see the word 'Verifying......' after you have selected 'next', and then after a few seconds you shoud see four blue tick marks confirming the 'verification' of your details.

This is what happened the first at least eight times I re-installed my account in 'Other' after it had stopped working, and whenever I tried to SEND mail from ***********@btinternet.com, or REPLY to mail sent to me at the same address, I got the the error message:

'Cannot Send Mail',

'The username or password for SMTP: ***********@mail.btinternet.com' is incorrect'

when the username or password were NOT incorrect.

The next four or five times I tried to re-install the account I did not see the word 'verifying....' OR any of the blue tick marks, but I still received the e-mails again that were deleted when the account was deleted - though I still could not SEND or REPLY.

Hope this helps

Bob
