Hello.

Well, as title says, no matter what i tried, Messages Beta keeps disconnecting my Yahoo ID. Any ideas? The Yahoo ID is the only one I got, except the Apple ID of course, so I cant really test if others have same problem(google talk for example). If when I get disconnected connect back with another app, Trillian for example, I stay online, it does not disconnect at all.

Thanks.

    Hi,

How many places have you got the Yahoo account logged in?

I find if I login via iChat and then launch the Yahoo for Mac beta 3 that logs iChat out of Yahoo.

I have not found a way in these two apps to allow Multiple Logins.

(i.e Logging in in a web Browser also causes either app to drop the Login)

Of course logging in in another place logs out the other one

No, I'm using one at a time, I just said that if when I get disconnected from Messages Beta I try to log in to Trillian, just to check if maybe it's a Yahoo issue, Trillian does not disconnect me, but Messages Beta disconnects me every single time after a max of 3-4minutes.

    Hi,

In Trillian does it tell your in the account settings which ports it is logging in to the server with ?

iChat 6 and Messages uses  Port 443

The Yahoo app tends to use port 5050 as does Trillian (on a Mac)

In which case it may be the server name that each app is using.

    Hello again,

Yes, trillian has 5050, is there any way to modify that in Messages? Because going to Yahoo account I only have name and password to fill in :S

    HI,

In iChat 6.0.x you could access the  Server Settings for the Yahoo Names you entered.

However this seems to have disappeared in Messages beta.

It also is not held in the com.apple.ichat.Yahoo.plist

(this makes it a bit of  mystery as to where the information is held as it is not in the IMAgent.plist or the ichat.plist itself)

    Hello,

Actually it IS held in the .ichat.yahoo.plist. it's under accounts->theaccount->server host and server port.

Port has a value of 0, server has a value of "", problem is if I change the port value it just resets when I Log in and I dont know what to enter in server host. But I presume it would change back to default just as port does.

    Any ideas?

    As expected, I tried adding

mcs.msg.yahoo.com to server host and 5050 to server port, after Messenger starts and logs in, these 2 values are reset to "" and 0 respectively and get disconnected shortly after.

    Any ideas?

edit: tried with scs.msg.yahoo.com and 5050 still same thing. Then i added Messages to firewall exceptions and it's been a good 5mins since I got disconnected. Hope that helped :/

edit2: nothing lasts forever, lol. back at disconnect, but at least it lasted a full 10mins

    HI,

I saw that the info was blank in the .plist (Suggesting it is kept somewhere else)

My thought would be the Plug-in used for the Yahoo stuff but I could not locate that either.

I had also noticed only yesterday that Messages did not appear in the Firewall Allow List (Despite the fact iChat used to be).

I was wondering if this was the cause of the Messages Jabber File Transfer issues.

Oh, that's why you said it's not stored in the yahoo plist, I get it now.

Well, I checked every other plist, none contains anything about servers, just the yahoo one, any idea why it resets everytime I log in? (Could it be beacause it really is stored somewhere else and it overrides the yahoo plist from wherever it is stored? And if so, I guess no way around it, is it?)

Could it be some permission problems? Although I highly doubt it...

Btw, can you stay connected to Yahoo via Messages? Am I the only one with this problem? Because if yes, it might be my currently poor internet transfer rate ... Or the fact that I have a 3G connection(being HSDPA, you'd be amazed, but the Mac App Store doesnt allow me to download or update(except very few apps) via 3G/HSDPA connection(others have this problem too), heh).

    Hi,

If you highlight the iChat 4 app (if you still have it on a computer somewhere) and Right Click it and select Show Package Contents you can get to see the bits that make iChat work.

In this version the contact to the servers is made via NIBs and there are very few Plug-ins listed (mainly to do with the IM style.

By the time your get to iChat 5 in Snow Leopard the plug-ins are more prevalent.

iChat 6 did not keep the Yahoo Plug-in in iChat.app/Contents/Plug-ins

    It was in Hard Drive/Library/iChat/Plug-ins

Now Messages keeps 4 plug-ins in Hard Drive/Library/Messages

So, basically, there's no hope for me?

Guess I have to hope it's because this darn 3G connection, cos I'm changing it to a LAN pretty soon :/

  • Ralph Johns (UK) Level 9 Level 9 (68,990 points)

    Hi,

Having a much more stable Internet connection is certainly going to help.

Sadly better transfer rate didn't help either

Guess I gotta hope it's the actual fact that I'm on HSDPA. Will get back when I get my LAN, just in case you are curious if it got "fixed"
