can i update my software for an early ipod 2g so i can connect it to a samsung 5.1 blue ray home entertainment system

    You can check for firmware updates by using the instructions in this Apple support document.

    Updating iPod

     

    If your iPod is up to date, then there is nothing you can do about it.  You might also want to check with Samsung to see if your iPod is compatible at all with that particular product.
