Address Book 5.0.3 - why does the "Last Import" show all of my contacts instead of the last vCard?

Why does the "Last Import" show all of my contacts instead of just the last vCard imported?

ADDRESS BOOK (GET RID OF "LAST IMPORT" GROUP)

The problem is that the last imported group of contacts appears along with all the permanent contacts (the good ones we want to keep). To eliminate the entries in "Recent Import" select that group and then select all in that group. From the File menu select "New Group from Selection". Allow it to make an untitled group or call it whatever you want. After that group is made, select it, and then "select all" in that group. Then delete them in total. The "Last Import" smart group will be there but there will be no entries and they no longer appear in your "All Contacts" group.
