That should not be a problem. I have done this many times without any issues. Out of curiosity, why the need to hotswap it?
Hello,
Thanks for the reply. (Some folks say not to hot swap so I'm asking others.)
I need to swap the HDMI input to the TV from either AppleTV or Roku Box. The HDMI on the rear of the TV are taken with Blu-Ray and DishTV.
While on this topic, what about an HDMI "switch"?
Thanks again.
Extreme Caution: You run the risk of damaging your tv with frequent hot swapping. Especially when using higher end cables. The fact is higher end cables are a tighter fit in the HDMI port and the constant rubbing of metals (by unplugging and pluggin back in) can cause damage to the HDMI port itself. Unfortunately on a tv this equates to replacing the tv's mainboard ($$$$). I strongly recommend a switch, however a switch can cause occassional handshake issues. I would recommend an HDMI switch that doesn't auto detect and switch the input. in otherwords a switch that you must manually set to a certain input.
The problem with auto-detect switches is that when the ATV and TV are handshaking, it is common for a signal to drop for a quick second. With an auto-detect switch this can cause the swtich to automatically search for a source that is active. It will then switch inputs. This then in turn casues incomplete handshake issues for the ATV-TV conenction.
All in all go with a swtich but I do recommend a decent one (not extrememly priced, but decent).
A switch would definitely be optimal.
