"Feedback" noise from Yamaha WX5 ... how to fix?

I have my Yamaha WX5 EWI hooked up through a USB MIDI to my MacBook Pro (OSX 7.3.1) and running Logic. Several software instruments (i.e. Pop Strings, but many others) start a low, feedback-like rumbling as soon as I start playing. No idea why ... the basic synth that shows up when I do "New Track - Software Instrument" doesn't have this problem.

Some fiddling around discovered that the pitch bend wheel causes the same "feedback" when pressed down, and a multi-note blast with "feedback" when pressed up.

At another user's suggestion I opened the Environment window and it looks like the pitch wheel emits a stream of commands when pressed down (see attached jpeg) that kicks off the "feedback".

Any idea what I can do to figure out what the 'feedback' command is, and how I can prevent it? Many of the voices in Logic are not useable for me because of this feedback.

That's exactly it ... after sending a Pitch control command it sends a stream of C-2, and after each Breath control it sends a stream of D-2, both of which cause the 'rumbling'. Now I need to figure out a) why is the EWI sending these notes ... is there some other purpose they are supposed accomplish, and b) how to I stop them from being played or interpreted in Logic.

One thing I found is I can set the Lowest Note value on an instrument, and if I set it to C1 then it stops it. But there must some other way to intercept the command.
