mac mini server out of the box

Can anyone answer this question?

Can you use the screen on a macbook air to see the macmini server on its first time boot out of the box using a thunderbolt cable? Cant find an answer anywhere even from Apple.😟 Screen sharing is not enabled and unless you have a screen, keyboard and mouse you have to terminal from another machine on the network and ssh on to the server to enable screen share. Pain in the but. Would be excellent if thunderbolt or mini display supported the macbook air or any other mac for that matter to be used as an external monitor. Suggestion are very welcome.

You may be able to boot the MBA from the mini's internal drive in FireWire target mode. If so, you can enable screen sharing that way.

Lion Server: Setting up a remote server

See the section "Using Screen Sharing or Apple Remote Desktop". You can just connect to the new server via Screen Sharing to set it up with via the server wizards. Note the following trick:

When prompted for authentication, leave the user name blank and enter the remote server’s complete hardware serial number for the password.
