In landscape orientation, the mailbox sidebar cannot be hidden.
I did search, but didn't find a similar question until I posted this one.
Basically, you can't hide it in landscape mode.
Very annoying. I wanted to move to landscape mode to read email newsletters, but there's no point as the sidebar hides most of the email.
It is there in landscape by design. The only way to make it go away is flip the pad to portrait.
Hi Kevin, this is probably immaterial now because of the elapsed time. I finally broke down and got me a mini and I do agree the text in landscape mode is somewhat small. I ran across this info bit of info that has eased my tired eyes. If you are still having an issue with small text, check out this link.

Works for me.
Frank.
There is a diagonal double arrow at the top left of the mail message pane that will do it.
Hi there,
Searched for the double arrows and there aren't any...
Please can you post a picture of this...
Thanks,
Maz
I believe TY's answer may be not be for an iPad. In portrait mode tap the main part of the screen to dismiss the sidebar. To bring the side bar back swipe from the left side of the screen.
