Q: I have an ipod touch with OS 5.1 but my PowerBook cannot operate the newest itunes...what do I do to be able to use itunes?

Since it's running Mac OS X 10.5.4, run the Software Update pane of System Preferences. It should then be able to run the newest iTunes version.

Click on the icon in the Dock which contains the gear, and then on the Software Update icon. Check for updates, install those listed, restart, and repeat the process. You should now have the current version of iTunes.

You need to purchase and install Mac OS X 10.5 on DVD from a source such as Amazon to use that iPod model. Mac OS X 10.6 won't run on a G4.

Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753).

If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:

After you install the base 10.5, download & install the 10.5.8 combo update at http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update

Caution - Leopard does not support classic mode. So, if you currently open OS 9 apps in classic mode, you won't be able to do this if you upgrade to Leopard.

Your profile shows you are running OS 10.5.4. You need to correct.
